Kintama Research offers a proven and cost-effective service to assist researchers tracking aquatic animals. In general, this data service can involve project consultation, deployment and maintenance of sub-arrays, data harvesting, data QA/QC, and data distribution.

Researchers must also join the POST consortium and abide by its rules for use of the POST array. These rules are designed to minimize inadvertent disruption to other projects, to ensure international compatability of data, and to guarantee that the data eventually becomes publically available— some of the greatest advances in science come from broad “meta-analysis” of all of the data. These projects typically ask questions well beyond what the original investigator may have thought of—and almost always bring surprises!

Kintama also provides other technical services to researchers. We will work with individual projects to install sub-arrays (or even individual receivers) if the larger array does not meet the needs of the project; we will facilitate custom sensors to be installed or even engineered for use on either receivers or tags; and we will train biologists to surgically implant tags. Scientists in other regions of the world also have commercial access to Kintama’s array deployment technologies in exchange for joining the globalized POST array. In essence, if you are interested in using acoustic technology to learn more about aquatic animals, we can provide the expert advice that will help your project succeed and get your grant proposals funded.
